The Chamberlain Whisper Drive 1/2 HP Belt Drive garage door opener is the ultimate in quiet performance. lt features our exclusive Motor Vibration lsolation System (MVlS), which eliminates powerhead vibration for reduced noise, making it the ideal choice if you have rooms positioned above the garage. And the 1/2 HP heavy-duty motor offers steady performance and lifting power year after year.

Safety and Security Features

The Protector System safety sensors with Rapid-Snap brackets project an invisible light beam across the garage door opening and automatically reverse the door if anything interrupts the beam while the door is going down.  The sensing technology will stop the door from closing if contact is made with a person or object. The opener lights turn on automatically when the Protector System's infrared beam is broken.  The Security+ anti-burglary technology assures a new code is sent every time the remote control is used. PosiLock theft protection assures that once the door is closed, it says locked.  Use the manual release handle in case of power failure.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Whisper quiet and a straightforward install
My house came equipped with a 1992 chain-drive Liftmaster garage door. It was very noisy and finally stopped working a couple of weeks ago. So I shopped at my local home repair stores and shopped online and found this model to be the most economical choice for my family's needs ( had by far the best price).

I was intimidated by the install, so the box sat in my living room for a couple of weeks. After reading the comprehensive instructions, I realized that I could leave the old door sensors, wiring and mounting hardware from my former unit. My 8-year old son helped me string the belt (a 2 person operation for sure) and my inattention to detail at this step was the only holdup on installation. I can say to make sure the opener trolly is fully in the "closed" position, that is to say at the end of the opening rail furthest from the unit. We started with the trolly in the middle and the result was that the door would only close halfway. After spending an hour figuring this out, re-threading the belt with the trolly in the proper position fixed it immediately. With that exception, instillation should have been just over an hour - but definitely longer if not for using my previously-installed hardware and mounting bracket.

Since install, it has performed marvelously. Opens and shuts perfectly each time. The rollers on my garage door are louder than the "whisper drive" belt system. My wife is surprised when I walk in the house from the garage because she doesn't hear the garage door opening.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good Directions and Easy Installation
I just purchased and installed this door yesterday. The instructions are extremely clear and well written. The quality of the opener components is high and installation was a breeze. I was replacing an older opener that broke and was able to reuse the sensors and door mount. It took about 90 minutes from start to finish and is very quiet in operation.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Chamberlain WD822KD garage door opener
DISAPPOINTED! We are a little disappointed with our Chamberlain garage door opener. We purchased it from Amazon.com. We installed it in a day to replace an existing opener (about 7-8 hours). Instructions were pretty good. However, we could not get the door to stay shut - kept bouncing open. We re-read the manual, followed the instructions, made the adjustments and still couldn't get it to stay shut. I e-mailed their tech support, got written instructions (pretty much what was already in the manual) and it still didn't stay shut.
So we called their 800 tech support number. Of course, we put it together on a Saturday, and there is no tech support on a Sunday and Monday was a holiday. How many people put their garage doors together on a Mon-Fri from 7 am - 5 pm?
So Tuesday evening at 4:30 pm we called tech support again. We got a lady who was very nice and friendly. However, she had us take the housing off the opener unit and take the belt off as she read all these instructions to us. Painful after we spent hours getting it put together and mounted on the ceiling. We didn't think the belt had anything to do with the problem since it worked well - just wouldn't stay shut. She gave the instructions to me as I repeated them to my husband up on a ladder doing as she said.
For some reason, the spring expanded and was caught on the trolley now and bent the inner trolley connection with tremendous tension on the unit. Now the unit was broken and unusable! She then gave us the name of someone who could come and install it at our expense. So she said she would send us the new parts - trolley and spring. However, it would take 7-10 business days. So, here we are with having to wait 2 weeks to get parts, having to take the entire unit down and start all over. My husband is very frustrated. We thought of just packing up the unit and shipping it back for a return of our money!! We have so much time and energy invested now, we will probably try one more time when the parts come - but without 800 tech support!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Chamberlain Whisper Drive
Ordered the Chamberlain WD822KD belt drive opener on Wednesday and using standard shipping (a few bucks more) received it on Saturday. It took my wife and me about 4 hours to install, test and program the remotes. The directions were easy to follow and the only glitch was the opener "overheated" during repeated testing for force, distance and safety. We waited the required 30 minutes and then finished the project. The opener is extremely quiet. Where our old chain drive opener vibrated the floor of the room above the garage and sounded like a vehicle was coming through the floor, the Whisper Drive has no vibration and is barely audible from that same room. Obviously I don't know how the opener will stand up over time (our Craftsman chain drive lasted 14 years) but other reviews indicate it is durable and has an excellent warranty.

It always comes up when people are comparing their most traumatic movie experiences: "the death of Bambi's mother," a recollection that can bring a shudder to even the most jaded filmgoer. That primal separation (which is no less stunning for happening off-screen) is the centerpiece of Bambi, Walt Disney's 1942 animated classic, but it is by no means the only bold stroke in the film. In its swift but somehow leisurely 69 minutes, Bambi covers a year in the life of a young deer. But in a bigger way, it measures the life cycle itself, from birth to adulthood, from childhood's freedom to grown-up responsibility. All of this is rendered in cheeky, fleet-footed style--the movie doesn't lecture, or make you feel you're being fed something that's good for you. The animation is miraculous, a lush forest in which nature is a constantly unfolding miracle (even in a spectacular fire, or those dark moments when "man was in the forest"). There are probably easier animals to draw than a young deer, and the Disney animators set themselves a challenge with Bambi's wobbly glide across an ice-covered lake, his spindly legs akimbo; but the sequence is effortless and charming. If Bambi himself is just a bit dull--such is the fate of an Everydeer--his rabbit sidekick Thumper and a skunk named Flower more than make up for it. Many of the early Disney features have their share of lyrical moments and universal truths, but Bambi is so simple, so pure, it's almost transparent. You might borrow a phrase from Thumper and say it's downright twitterpated. --Robert Horton

This well-acted drama won the Audience award at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival, causing a festival ruckus when several distributors entered a bidding war in response to the movie's positive buzz. When the movie was finally released, audience and critical response provided a sudden reality check: the movie's good to a point, but hardly worth the fuss it received at Sundance. Packing a miniseries' worth of melodrama into 117 minutes, the story centers on a young woman named Percy (Alison Elliott) who served prison time for manslaughter and arrives in a small town in Maine with hopes of beginning a new life. She works as a waitress in the Spitfire Grill, owned by Hannah (Ellen Burstyn), whose gruff exterior conceals a kind heart and precious little tolerance for the grill's regular customers, who cast their suspicions on Percy's mysterious past. The plot unfolds when Hannah holds a $100-per-entry essay contest to find a new owner for the grill. There's ample mystery surrounding the collected money, a local hermit who's really Hannah's shell-shocked Vietnam veteran son, and circumstances that lead the locals to adopt a lynch-mob mentality at Percy's expense. By the time Percy is nearly drowning in a raging river, The Spitfire Grill has taken its melodrama a few steps 'round the bend. Fine acting is the movie's saving grace, however, and newcomer Alison Elliott anchors The Spitfire Grill with a subtle, emotionally involving performance. Thanks to Elliott and Burstyn, you don't have to feel too guilty if you find yourself reaching for a Kleenex as the closing credits roll. --Jeff Shannon

Big news on the Harry Potter musical front: After scoring the first three installments in the series, John Williams has been replaced by Patrick Doyle. Still, Williams never feels far away. His main theme pops up here and there, and a track like "Voldemort," which eloquently illustrates the soul of a blacker-than-black wizard with thunderous cymbal crashes, shrieking horns, tumultuous strings, and a stately finish, firmly belongs in the Williams mode. Overall, Doyle acquits himself well. He can do light when needed ("The Quidditch World Cup," which starts out like some kind of jig), but mostly he's required to be ominous ("The Quidditch World Cup," which ends in martial war chants). Among the highlights are the aforementioned "Voldemort," but also the frantic, overpowering "The Dark Mark." Note that the CD concludes on a jarringly different note with three songs by the Weird Sisters, the group that performs at Hogwarts' Yule Ball. Led by Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker, the ad hoc band also includes members of Radiohead and Cocker's side project Relaxed Muscle. "Do the Hippogriff" is a fast-paced rocker that somehow comes across like a grungy hybrid of Billy Idol's "White Wedding" and "Dancing with Myself." The other two songs--"This Is the Night" and "Magic Works"--are less obvious, and much better. Still, the contrast between these tracks and the instrumental score that precedes them may not be to everybody's taste. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

You needn't see the film of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone to appreciate the wonder, magic, and fearful chills of J.K. Rowling's phenomenal bestseller in John Williams's outstanding score. Williams typically avoids the source material for the films he scores, but he reportedly derived great pleasure and inspiration from Rowling's first Harry Potter adventure, and created a perfect motif (fully expressed in "Hedwig's Theme") to dominate his score. It's first heard as a dreamy celesta waltz and embellished through myriad incarnations and moods, often with a sinister edge befitting the darker tones of Chris Columbus's direction. Evident are fantastical allusions to Saint-Saëns and Tchaikovsky (among others), and Williams's epic track is "Quidditch Match," a breathtaking frenzy to accompany the film's dazzling highlight. And while Williams occasionally flirts with self-plagiarism (with inevitable variants of his Hook and Star Wars themes), this is nevertheless a richly regal score that brilliantly evokes the mystery and magic of Harry Potter's world. --Jeff Shannon
